Affirmation of the Week

“I APPROVE OF MYSELF”

This has to be one of the most important affirmations I have ever used, and it was also the very first one I started working with many years ago.

At its most basic level, this affirmation is about loving yourself.  Have you ever gone up to a mirror, looked in it and been able to truly tell yourself “I love you” without having done a lot of inner work beforehand?  Doing so without pulling faces, without giggling, grimacing or even crying.  Yes, I know of some people who have found this that hard and that painful!  I’ve also known some people who have refused to even entertain the thought of trying this, because it was so scary!

We all try to keep afloat in this world of ours, try to keep balance while there is no such thing as perfection.  We all make mistakes, we can all be nice, all more horrible, be helpful, be hindering: but it does seem that society generally focusses more on the negative so we learn that that is what we too “should” focus on.  That isn’t to say we should be going “Hey, I’ll do all that bad stuff and because I think it’s ok, it is”!  It’s not about condoning negative behaviour (or illegal behaviour come to that) nor is it about perpetuating negativity.  It is about looking honestly at ourselves and being able to let of our self-judgement, of finding ourselves “wanting” and of releasing that “perfectionism” which seems to drive so many of us.

At the end of the day, do you approve of yourself?  And if not, why not?

Have a great week and please share your thoughts on this affirmation, whether you think it may help you and if so, what change it helps to bring 🙂
